vanilla chocolate-covered oranges

These delicious juicy orange slices are covered with vanilla olive oil dark chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt. They make a tasty, sweet treat and are easy to make.


Ingredients:

  • two large oranges or several smaller ones (I used large Satsuma Mandarins)

  • 1/4 cup cacao powder

  • two tbsp pure maple syrup

  • one heaping tbsp of coconut oil (around 1 1/2 tbsp)

  • 1/2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • sea salt

or

  • two large oranges or several smaller ones (I used large Satsuma Mandarins)

  • one dark chocolate bar

  • 1/2 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • sea salt


Method:

  • peel oranges and set aside slices for later

(with stove)

  • add coconut oil to a small saucepan and turn the heat to the lowest it can go

  • add vanilla extract and cacao powder to the pot and stir slowly until all of the coconut oil is melted and a smooth chocolate sauce forms

  • once the chocolate sauce is a good consistency, add in olive oil and maple syrup and stir slowly until combined

  • turn the heat off

  • dip orange slices into the pot of chocolate and place on a sheet pan or large plate lined with parchment or wax paper

  • sprinkle sea salt on top

  • place in the fridge or freezer for a couple of minutes until the chocolate has hardened

(using a chocolate bar)

  • in a small saucepan, melt 3/4 to one bar of chocolate

  • add in one 1/2 tbsp coconut oil and vanilla extract, then mix the chocolate sauce together

  • turn the heat off

  • dip orange slices into the pot of chocolate and place on a sheet pan or large plate lined with parchment or wax paper

  • sprinkle sea salt on top

  • place in the fridge or freezer for a couple of minutes until the chocolate has hardened

Store the leftover slices in the freezer for a frozen treat!
